LABUAN: A trader here was compounded for using an expired weighing instrument for business.
Labuan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Junaidah Arbain said the action followed an inspection at a business premises where officers found a Saigon-brand spring balance with a calibration certificate that had expired on Jan 14, 2026.
“Following the discovery, the trader was compounded under subsection 14(6) of the Weights and Measures Act 1972 (Act 71) for using a weighing instrument with an expired calibration certificate for trading purposes,” she said.
Offenders convicted under the provision face a fine of up to RM40,000, up to three years’ imprisonment, or both.
Junaidah reminded traders to ensure all weighing and measuring instruments are properly calibrated and within their validity period to protect consumers and ensure accurate transactions.
She added that KPDN would continue conducting inspections to ensure compliance.
