
PENAMPANG: The traditional Kadazandusun art of Hiis poetry will take the spotlight at the State-level Kaamatan Festival 2025, with a full-day competition at Hongkod Koisaan Hall, KDCA this Saturday.
Hiis, also known as Hius or Lilihis, is a form of oral poetry rich in wisdom, values and metaphor, passed down through generations of Kadazandusun communities.
The event, jointly organised by the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) and the Sabah State Education Department (JPNS), will run from 10am to 11pm, ending with an official closing and prize presentation ceremony.

A total of 10 teams, which are five from primary and five from secondary schools across the State have advanced to the final round, which will begin at 7.45pm.
The programme also includes student singing performances, a jury tribute slideshow, and appreciation segments for participants and judges.
The closing ceremony will be officiated by KDCA President Huguan Siou Tan Sri Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, with State Education Director Datuk Raisin Saidin also expected to attend.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and celebrate this unique cultural showcase, which forms part of Sabah’s vibrant Kaamatan festivities.
