Tragedy strikes at popular UK beach as man dies after being pulled from sea

  • Emergency services responded to reports of three people in distress in the sea at Camber Sands beach in East Sussex shortly before 7pm on Sunday.
  • A 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man managed to safely exit the water, but a 24-year-old man was recovered at around 7.30pm and tragically pronounced dead at the scene despite resuscitation efforts.
  • Sussex Police confirmed that the deceased's next of kin have been informed, and inquiries into the incident remain ongoing with an increased emergency service presence in the area.
  • The drowning occurred as temperatures were set to reach 36C across parts of the country during the fifth heatwave of the summer, prompting water safety warnings from charities including the RNLI.
  • Yellow heat health alerts issued by the UK Health Security Agency are currently in place across multiple English regions until at least 9pm on Tuesday as the hot weather continues.
