SEGAMAT: A trailer driver involved in a fatal three-vehicle crash has been remanded for four days.

The 28-year-old local man was ordered remanded by Magistrate Amalina Johar at the Segamat Magistrate’s Court.

The fatal accident occurred yesterday evening at Kilometre 212 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Seremban near the Taman Golden Hill intersection in Gemas Baharu.

Johor police chief Datuk CP Ab Rahaman Arsad said the incident at 3.45 pm happened when the trailer hit the back of a van.

“As a result of the collision, the van lost control before entering the opposite lane and colliding with a lorry,” he stated.

Three victims in the van were confirmed dead at the scene due to serious injuries.

The deceased were a married couple and the van driver, who was the brother of the wife.

Two other van passengers, the driver’s grandchildren, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Segamat Hospital.

The drivers of the lorry and trailer were unhurt in the incident.

Initial urine screening results found the trailer driver to be positive for methamphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of drugs causing death.

It is also being probed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for injecting drugs into the body.
