The transfer window is now open once more following a short closure after its initial mini-opening ahead of the summer’s Club World Cup. The window officially re-opened on Monday 16 June, with clubs able to accelerate deals ahead of the new season.
Liverpool are making plans for a Florian Wirtz medical later this week after agreeing a record £116.5m deal for the German superstar. The Premier League champions, who have already brought in Jeremie Frimpong, will make Wirtz their club-record signing after agreeing a deal with Bayer Leverkusen. However, they may well lose left-back stalwart Andy Robertson, with Atletico Madrid circling.
Manchester United, who have secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m, are negotiating with Brentford about Bryan Mbeumo, who would prefer a move to Old Trafford over Tottenham Hotspur even as Thomas Frank takes charges in north London – though Spurs want Mbeumo and teammate Yoane Wissa.
Arsenal hope to bring in Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, and Mikel Arteta has made RB Leipzig striker, Benjamin Sesko, their No 1 target for a striker. However, the Gunners have reportedly submitted an initial offer for another forward option – Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres.

Beating City, PSR and the No 10 role: Inside Liverpool’s record transfer for Florian Wirtz

Chris Wilson
German superstar Florian Wirtz is set to join Liverpool in a deal that could see him become the most expensive player ever signed by a Premier League club.
The 22-year-old, who has become one of the most coveted players in world football during his time at Bayer Leverkusen, was a target for Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich, though Arne Slot’s side quickly moved to the front of the race for his signature.
Leverkusen had wanted €150m, or £126m, and previously rejected two bids from the Premier League champions. But Liverpool have agreed to sign Wirtz for an initial £100m, potentially rising to £116m, making him their club-record signing.
But why has the German picked Liverpool as his next club, and when will the deal be finalised?

FIFA defends Club World Cup ticket sales after another low turnout

Chris Wilson
FIFA has defended the progress of ticket sales for the Club World Cup after another low turnout for a group stage game on Tuesday evening.
Just 3,412 people attended the match in Orlando between Ulsan HD of South Korea and South African side Mamelodi Sundowns, after 22,317 watched Chelsea’s opening game against Los Angeles FC in Atlanta, in a stadium which can hold up to 71,000 people.
The competition has been controversial since its inception and has triggered legal action from domestic leagues and player unions against FIFA over what they see as a lack of consultation by the global governing body over fixture decisions.

Garnacho latest

Chris Wilson
Reports around the future of Man Utd winger Alejandro Garnacho seem to have gone quiet for now, with the last big update suggest that the Argentinian prefers to stay in the Premier League.
Chelsea were touted as an interested party but it is not known for sure how their pursuit of Bynoe-Gittens and Fofana affect that interest, though you would assume either of those signings would rule out a move.
Napoli are another supposedly interested side, though it is unknown whether Garnacho would consider the Italian champions at this point.
Other sides with reported interest include Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa, though nothing concrete has emerged with regards to either side’s interest.
Gyokeres talks with current club Sporting collapse

Lawrence Ostlere
Viktor Gyokeres has refused to engage in more talks over his future with current club Sporting CP, according to Record in Portugal, as he believes the club are reneging on a verbal agreement to sell him for offers at around £50m.
Arsenal have seen an offer rejected for the Swedish striker, while Manchester United and Juventus are also known to be interested in his services. But Gyokeres is reported as feeling frustrated with the Sporting hierarchy over their handling of the situation.
He posted on Instagram last week: "There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right."

,
Chris Wilson
Reports from UK media suggest that Man City’s Kyle Walker could be set for a move to Everton.
The England international spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan but has since returned to City, though he was left out of the squad for the Club World Cup.
Walker is expected to leave the Etihad permanently this summer.
Pep Guardiola sends message to Jack Grealish as Man City winger watches Club World Cup from afar
14:26
,
Chris Wilson
Pep Guardiola has told Jack Grealish to find somewhere to play after his lack of minutes at Manchester City over the past two years.
Grealish made only seven Premier League starts last season despite being fit and available for much of the campaign, and was left out of City’s 27-player squad for this summer’s Club World Cup in the United States. The 27-year-old England international has instead been on holiday, although his social media posts suggest he is also working on his fitness ahead of next season.
The £100m signing made a major impact during City’s 2023 treble triumph but has since faded from Guardiola’s plans. City added Lyon winger Rayan Cherki to their squad ahead of the Club World Cup in another sign that Grealish does not feature in next season’s plans.

It is unknown what sort of fee Liverpool would demand for a deal, though Atletico are said to be willing to pay around £5m.

13:26
,
Chris Wilson
The EFL season only ended less than a month ago but preparations are already underway for 2025/26, with clubs making signings, appointing managers and confirming pre-season schedules across all three leagues.
And a vital step in each club’s preparations comes with the release of the fixture calendar, as every team learns of opening day fixtures, dates for the diary and their opponents at vital points in the season.
While the Premier League has already released the schedule for teams in the top flight, EFL clubs learn their own fixtures just over a week later, ahead of the respective seasons starting in the opening two weekends of August.
And with the fixture release just around the corner, here is everything you need to know.

Chris Wilson
According to Sky Sports, Premier League clubs have already surpassed £600m in spending at this early point in the transfer window.
The special mini-window that run due to the Club World Cup saw plenty of early spending, with Manchester City alone spending around £100m with the signings of Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Of course, that overall expenditure will only increase with the imminent arrivals of players such as Florian Wirtz.
Premier League fixtures 2025/26: The six weekends that could decide the title race
12:32
,
Chris Wilson
The Premier League fixtures have been released for the 2025/26 campaign and Liverpool will be able to lay down an early marker with a Friday night test against Bournemouth.
But the title race should be more captivating than last term after the Reds ran away with it in the end.
This time, Manchester City, Arsenal and perhaps Chelsea, Newcastle and more will fancy their chances at keeping pace with Arne Slot’s side.
Here we take a look at six defining weekends of the season and why they matter to the outcome of the title race:

Sheff Wed given three-window fee restriction

Chris Wilson
An important development in the Championship now, as Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a a three-window fee restriction by the EFL.
It means the club will not be able to pay any fees for players for three transfer windows. Instead, they will only be able to sign free agents.
The decision from the EFL comes after the club “exceeded 30 days of late payments between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025”, reports Sky.
Arsenal make Sesko progress but stumbling block remains
12:00
,
Lawrence Ostlere
Arsenal have reportedly “agreed personal terms” with their prime No 9 target Benjamin Sesko, according to Sport Bild via sportwitness, but there remains a major stumbling block in the shape of his huge price tag.
Sky Sports Germany reports that Leipzig are holding out for €80-100m (£68-86m), and Arsenal are reluctant to go that high. Even so, several reports have said the Gunners are preparing a first solid bid for the striker.
It is clearly a delicate operation, with Viktor Gyokeres waiting on hold to see how the situation progresses.

Newcastle United transfer news: Joao Pedro, Anthony Elanga, James Trafford and more
11:46
,
Chris Wilson
Having ended their trophy drought with Carabao Cup success last season, Newcastle United now have work to do in the transfer market.
With a return to the Champions League, the Magpies need to strengthen their squad to compete at the highest level.
Boss Eddie Howe has made it known that he is looking to work fast this summer, seemingly not wanting to repeat the sort of saga that saw Marc Guehi remain at Crystal Palace despite strong interest.
The Saudi-backed club have been without any major recruits over the past two seasons due to PSR rules, but could make a plunge in the summer market with a string of options already linked to the North East giants.
Here’s everything you need to know about Newcastle United’s summer transfer plans:

11:32
,
Chris Wilson
Sky Sports reports that Jadon Sancho is under consideration at Napoli, though the winger would need to take a significant pay cut if he were to join the Italian champions.
Napoli “will formally approach Man Utd if they believe a move is realistic”, and they have reportedly been in touch with Sancho’s representatives over personal terms.
United are said to prefer a permanent sale to any other type of deal, and it is thought their valuation is around £25m.

,
Chris Wilson
BBC Sport reports that Celta Vigo attacker Fer Lopez is “due to have a medical at Wolves” ahead of a £19m move to Molineux.

Bournemouth sign Kerkez replacement
11:04
,
Chris Wilson
Bournemouth have a new left-back as a replacement for the seemingly-departing Milos Kerkez as they’ve brought in Adrien Truffert from Rennes.
The 23-year-old has joined on a five-year-deal with reports suggesting a €13.5m fixed fee, €3.5m add-ons and a 10 per cent sell-on clause to Rennes.
The 21-year-old Kerkez was hugely impressive for the Cherries this term and looks set to join Liverpool in a deal worth around £45m, although his departure had been contingent on Bournemouth confirming the Truffert deal.

Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea handed ultimatum over Ekitike
Man United could be in for the £85m-rated Hugo Ekitke from Eintracht Frankfurt and they have now entered talks with the club about signing him.
There has been no formal bid yet, according to Sky Sports, but United are exploring the conditions of a deal and personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
Ruben Amorim’s side are in the market for a striker regardless of what happens with the Rasmus Hojlund situation - with Serie A sides in for him but the Dane keen to fight for his place at Old Trafford.
Chelsea and Liverpool also want Ekitke, but Frankfurt insist the asking price is €100m, if it’s not met, then the 22-year-old will stay in Germany, reports Sport Bild.

Every Premier League club’s first five fixtures 2025/26 – and who has the hardest start

The biggest news of the morning as the 2025/26 Premier League fixture list was released...
The Premier League fixtures have been released for the new 2025/26 season and already fans will be debating who has been given a helping hand by the fixture computer and who has been given the short straw.
Yes, they all play each other twice, but when you want your club to get off to a flying start, a friendly looking fixture list certainly helps.
Arsenal can certainly lay claim to the most difficult start, with away trips to Manchester United and Liverpool in their first five fixtures, amid home ties against newly promoted Leeds, last season’s relevation Nottingham Forest and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
But perhaps Man United’s is even tougher, with top-four finishers Arsenal, City and Chelsea all in their first five games, alongside an away trip to Fulham and a home game against newcomers Burnley.

Chelsea transfer round-up
10:27

Chris Wilson
Chelsea may be in the United States competing in the Fifa Club World Cup, but their transfer business has not slowed down.
Enzo Maresca’s side are preparing for a jaunt into the Champions League next season after finishing fourth in the English top-flight and winning the Conference League in a busy term.
They have work to do in the summer with Jadon Sancho returning to Old Trafford and a bulking of the squad needed in some areas to provide the quality demanded by Europe’s elite club competition.
There is no shortage of funds at Stamford Bridge, with big-money moves a constant fixture of recent transfer windows, and this summer is set to be no different.
Here’s everything you need to know about Chelsea’s summer transfer plans:

Man City enter a new era at Club World Cup and two arrivals hold the key
10:00
,
Chris Wilson
Ahead of tonight’s opening match in the Club World Cup for City...
In December, Real Madrid won the inaugural Intercontinental Cup. The implications for Manchester City were indirect but it does mean that, on a technicality, they enter the Club World Cup as defending champions. An expanded competition can seem a new one: under the old format, the last final – officially, anyway, given Real’s win over Pachuca came in a rebranded competition – was City’s 4-0 walloping of Fluminense in Saudi Arabia.
It was City’s fifth trophy of 2023. It is not the only reason it feels like a different time. One of the goals came from Phil Foden, then on fire. Julian Alvarez bookended the scoring with a brace, but he now leads the line for Atletico Madrid. The silverware was lifted by Kyle Walker, but the captain isn’t even part of the squad City are taking to the United States after spending the second half of the season on loan at AC Milan. Jack Grealish, who started against Fluminense, didn’t make the plane this summer either.
Whatever the competition is called, there was the sense that, 18 months ago, City were entitled to call themselves the world’s best. Hindsight shows it was one of the last triumphs of a team; they won that season’s Premier League but even men as perceptive as Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain failed to notice the evidence of decline until it was too late.

Man Utd futures up in the air
09:23
,
Chris Wilson
The future of several Manchester United players remains unsure at this early stage of the transfer window, with rumours circulating about Jadon Sancho in particular.
The winger, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea, is reportedly a target for Napoli and even Aston Villa, though no club wants to pay his wages (which could be as high as £300,000 a week if reports are to be believed).
Marcus Rashford is another player who was loaned out for a portion of last season, and though it is believed that the England winger favours a move to Barcelona, there are yet to be any concrete links to a move.
There are concrete links relating to Antony though, with Real Betis reportedly keen on at least extending the Brazilian’s loan.
And Rasmus Hojlund continues to be linked to a move to Inter Milan, though those reports are mainly emanating from Italian media.

Bayern Munich have put Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo on their list of targets after their efforts to sign Nico Williams fall flat.

Bayern have now moved on to other players, with Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma and Liverpool’s Gakpo on their shortlist, according to Sky Sports Germany.
Gakpo is thought to be happy at Anfield but the Dutchman had to settle for a place on the bench at times under Arne Slot last season. Slot, however, could lose Luis Diaz this summer and will want to retain at least one of his favoured left wingers.

We start with news that Arsenal have held “exploratory talks” with Real Madrid forward Rodrygo as Mikel Arteta seeks to upgrade his forward options.
Rodrygo’s role in the Madrid faded towards the end of last season, and The Independent reported this month that the 24-year-old Brazilian would not be a natural fit for new manager Xabi Alonso’s preferred system.
Ben Jacobs reports that Arsenal hold a “genuine interest” in Rodrygo, with ongoing talks dating back to May. Madrid value their player at around €90m.
