Liverpool still hope to make additions to their squad before the transfer window closes in September and have two big names on their list of potential signings with the Reds aiming to bring in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Neither move is particularly close with negotiations ongoing though Isak has stopped training with the Newcastle squad and is keen for the move. The Reds have had a £110m bid rejected for the striker and are considering a second bid having raised more funds by completing a £25m sale of Ben Doak to Bournemouth.

Eberechi Eze’s potential move to Tottenham Hotspur is dominating the closing stretch of the summer transfer window, with Crystal Palace negotiating a suitable payment structure in a deal worth more than £55m but the Eagles are also looking to hold onto Guehi despite Liverpool’s interest.

Manchester United continue to endure frustration with their goalkeeper situation, and could rival Manchester City for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma having seemingly ended their pursuit of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba who looks set to remain with the Seagulls.

Andrews unclear on Wissa situation

Mike Jones

Brentford boss Keith Andrews says he doesn’t know what is happening with Yoane Wissa’s situation but that there has been no change.

"It's a day-by-day one in terms of Wiss," the Irishman said. "As far as I know nothing else has happened today, definitely didn't yesterday, so as it was really.

"I have no idea what the situation will be, I have been up here since yesterday so we will deal with that during the week.

"Hopefully it can resolve itself sooner rather than later.

"We're always looking and there's a clear plan at the club if a player leaves."

The Leeds logic behind their ‘magical night’ – and why it could last

12:37

,

Richard Jolly

Five years ago, Leeds United marked their return to the Premier League with a helter-skelter affair against opposition from Merseyside. Marcelo Bielsa’s side lost 4-3 to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in a classic. In 2025, there was a superficial similarity in the fixture list, none whatsoever in the game but Leeds could savour an outcome they preferred. Everton were beaten 1-0 and, for the second time in the opening round of games, a promoted club tasted victory.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds will never have the romance of Bielsa’s but a prosaic win qualified as a “really magic night” for a manager who entered his 50th Premier League game with just six wins to his name but who could claim the meagre resources at Norwich accounted for that record.

Brentford blocking Wissa move

12:25

,

Mike Jones

talkSPORT say that Brentford are continuing to block Yoane Wissa’s potential move to Newcastle.

The signing of Dango Ouattara, for a club record fee, was to replace Bryan Mbeumo after his move to Manchester United and the Bees want another forward before Wissa can leave.

Sky Sports News also reported last week that Wissa’s representatives were assured Brentford would engage with Newcastle if there was movement on forward reinforcements.

Newcastle are not expected to offer above £40m who could play into things as well.

12:19

,

Mike Jones

Spurs line up Savinho alternative

12:13

,

Miguel Delaney

Tottenham were interested in bringing Manchester City midfielder Savinho to the club this summer but it seems likely that the 21-year-old will remain at the Etihad.

Spurs are now looking at Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche as an alternative.

Akliouche is 23-years-old and scored five goals with 10 assists in 32 matches for Monaco last season.

Mike Jones

Why Liverpool have chosen Parma sensation Giovanni Leoni as Virgil van Dijk’s successor

12:02

,

Ben McAleer

The concept of “winning” a transfer window more often than not boils down to how many players a team has signed.

That being said, Liverpool could make a genuine claim to the crown with their summer business.

Losing Trent Alexander-Arnold hurt, though to do so for £10m in order for the right-back to participate in the Club World Cup softened the blow of a potential free exit.

11:53

,

Mike Jones

"We are keeping balance, and we are respecting the rules," Unai Emery said about Aston Villa’s transfer window with both Leon Bailey and Jacob Ramsey having left the club.

Emery added: "We are being competitive in the transfer window. Since I arrived here, we have done fantastic windows, in January and the summer. We now have to be intelligent and alert in everything.

"I think the most important is how we are building the team, trying to get as strong as possible with the players we have.

"The club is working fantastic, and we are ambitious. We are ambitious, respecting the rules too, trying to get the best players possible.

"We are not going to rest in case we can be with an option in the transfer window."

The 21-year-old is set to become Phil Parkinson’s 10th summer signing while City continue to trim their squad and bring in money by selling youth-team products.

Centre-back Doyle would become the second biggest buy in Wrexham’s history after Nathan Broadhead joined from Ipswich last week in a move that could cost up to £10m.

“Our decision making was not great and that cost us and gave United a lot of momentum. We did not get punished for it but we cannot do it every game.”

"With Dominic it's a first step, an important step for us of course. But there is still business to be done."

Liverpool’s summer sales set to exceed £200m

10:23

,

Mike Jones

Liverpool are about to pass the £20mm mark in player sales this summer with teenage winger Ben Doak set to complete a move to Bournemouth.

It is understood that the 19-year-old is on the verge of finalising his transfer to the south coast in a £25m deal.

He follows Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher and Jarell Quansah out of the club this summer, with the income from those sales going a long way to offset a transfer spend in excess of £300m.

James McAtee explains why he left Manchester City

10:16

,

Mike Jones

James McAtee has signed a five-year deal at the City Ground after Nottingham Forest beat off competition from a host of other clubs who were interested in the 22-year-old.

He said: “I feel ready for a new challenge and the club had a great season last year so I want to help build on that and show what I can do.

“I’m so happy to be here and really looking forward to getting started with my new teammates and I know the ambition of everyone associated with the club which is something I want to be a part of.”

Donnarumma setback for City

10:08

,

Mike Jones

Manchester City are interested in bringing Gianluigi Donnarumma to the club but have hit a snag.

With Donnarumma out of favour at PSG, City thought to pounce but his arrival was dependent on Ederson leaving the club.

The Brazilian was touted for a move to Galatasaray which now seems unlikely to happen as the Turkish side have reportedly moved on to other targets.

City already have James Trafford and Stefan Ortega on the books as well so adding a fourth goalkeeper would be less than ideal.

10:00

,

Mike Jones

Rasmus Hojlund was not involved at all for Manchester United in their opening game of the new Premier League season against Arsenal.

Ruben Amorim says the decision to leave him out was not transfer related.

Amorim explained: "No, it’s a fight for the places, we’ll see what is going to happen on the market, different characteristics.

“So Rasmus has the same characteristics of Benjamin Sesko, so sometimes we need to choose."

Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund have offered to sign Claudio Echeverri on loan for the season.

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City have to reduce squad size

09:08

,

Mike Jones

Pep Guardiola claimed Manchester City's squad size is "not healthy" after opening their Premier League campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory at Wolves.

Erling Haaland struck twice and new signings Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki also got on the scoresheet as City began their quest for a seventh title in nine seasons in emphatic fashion at Molineux on Saturday.

Guardiola said: "(It's) too much - too many people. I like a deep squad to compete in all competitions but I don't want to leave players at home. It's not healthy. You cannot create a good vibe or atmosphere to compete.

"Everyone has to feel they can play and help. The club has known it since last season, it's not news, but the situation is what it is.

"In the next two weeks, people will talk with players and agents to find a solution."

Arsenal forced to look elsewhere?

08:52

,

Mike Jones

Arsenal had been heavily linked with Eberechi Eze earlier in the window, though it now seems likely that they will miss out to their north London rivals.

Will they go in for an alternative target between now and the end of the window?

With Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres already brought in, it may be that Mikel Arteta is happy having bolstered his squad.

However, the new signings seemed a little undercooked at Old Trafford and that is a potentially worrying sign going forward though the season is still in its early days.

Crystal Palace line up possible Eberechi Eze replacement

08:45

,

Mike Jones

Crystal Palace appear to be considering Bilal El Khannouss as a possible target to replace Eberechi Eze.

Hojlund to leave Man Utd?

08:32

,

Mike Jones

Rasmus Hojlund seems like he could be on his way out of Old Trafford after he was omitted from their matchday squad against Arsenal last Sunday.

The striker has had plenty of suitors this summer with AC Milan, Fulham and now Napoli interested in him.

United reportedly want around £40m for Hojlund but are open to loan deals under the right conditions. Napoli are pursuing the latter due to Romelu Lukaku being out for the next three months.

Now that Benjamin Sesko has arrived at Old Trafford Hojlund may struggle for gametime and a loan may be the best solution for him.

Arsenal receive Rodrygo boost

08:27

,

Mike Jones

Arsenal have been linked with a few attacking wingers this summer and have already brought in Noni Madueke.

They were invested in Eberechi Eze for a while though he seems more likely to join Tottenham.

Now they are rumoured to be looking at Real Madrid’s Rodrgyo who was also of interest to Manchester City. However, City’s decision to keep Savinho (who was targeted by Spurs) and Pep Guardiola’s desire to reduce his squad means Arsenal may be in prime position to secure him.

Rodrygo has reportedly been told he can leave this summer and Spanish outlet Cadena SER say Madrid’s asking price set is £76.8m (€90m).

Garnacho's move to Chelsea stalls

08:21

,

Mike Jones

Alejandro Garnacho wants out of Manchester United and seemed set to move to Chelsea this summer having allegedly agreed personal terms with the club.

Chelsea however will not move for Garnacho until they have got some of their own fringe players off the books with Christopher Nkunku the big selling point.

Bayern Munich are interested in the forward but want a loan deal while Chelsea prefer to sell him permanently for around £50m.

That is the same price United want for Garnacho who is stubbornly holding out for a move to the Blues.

How likely is it that Liverpool sign Marc Guehi?

08:11

,

Mike Jones

There is potential for a deal here but it will be driven by Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish.

The issue is whether he finds more value in keeping Marc Guehi on the books for the remaining 12 months of his contract than could be brought in by a transfer fee.

BBC Sport report tha the current figure being rumoured is £35m for the Palace captain to move to Liverpool though talks are ongoing.

There is no agreement yet but the next few days should make the stances of both clubs clearer on whether a deal can be done or not.

Will Man Utd make a move for Donnarumma?

08:06

,

Mike Jones

It is a transfer that probably needs to happen for Manchester United.

Altay Bayindir’s error against Arsenal on Sunday cost a revamped and renewed United side a point against Arsenal at Old Trafford and PSG’s exiled goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma would improve them immensely.

Donnarumma was again left out of PSG’s squad, this time against Nantes in Ligue 1, after also being omitted from the Super Cup victory over Tottenham.

The Italian has been linked with both Manchester clubs with City perhaps slightly ahead of United in the rumour mill.

Need is more pressing for the team in red though as City have excellent goalkeepers at their disposal in James Trafford, Stefan Ortega and Ederson.

The latter is said to be potentially moving to Galatasaray which will be a factor in their pursuit of Donnarumma.
