Transfer news LIVE: Guimaraes set for Arsenal medical, Vinicius Jr deal close, Man Utd target left-back

Arsenal have made a breakthrough in their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr with a transfer for the Brazilian winger now seen as a possibility after his contract talks in Spain have stalled. The Gunners are also targeting Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and a report from the The Times says he will have a medical with the club today.

In order to facilitate two huge deals - both would need fees near to or in excess of £100m - Arsenal may need to sell. Christian Norgaard is set for the exit after a single season at the Emirates with Everton is his next destination, it seems. Myles Lewis-Skelly could also be an eye-raising sale with Manchester United exploring their options to bring the defender to Old Trafford as Michael Carrick looks to bolster his squad.

United’s aim is for a left-back with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall also in the mix though it may prove more difficult to prize him out of St. James’ Park given the sale of Sandro Tonali and, probably, Guimaraes already in this window.

Elsewhere, Chelsea have announced the surprise signing of Danny Welbeck, with Jordan Henderson soon to follow, and Mohamed Salah appears to have a new club, finally, after leaving Liverpool on a free.

Ipswich closing on Burnley midfielder

08:51 , Mike Jones

Ipswich are closing in on Burnley midfielder Florentino Luis.

The deal is being discussed at around £16m.

Hull had been in talks to secure Luis’s services on loan but manager Sergej Jakirovic confirmed they are likely to miss out as another club wants a permanent deal.

Medicals are Fulham

08:40 , Mike Jones

Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios have undergone medicals with Fulham ahead of sealing permanent moves from Real Madrid.

The combined fee for both players is around £42.3m.

Garcia, a 22-year-old striker, is set to move for around £34m while, Palacios, an 18-year-old midfielder who made his senior debut for Real Madrid in January, is costing Fulham around £8.5m.

Bayern Munich in for Sesko?

08:28 , Mike Jones

This one seems a touch far-fetched but The Sun are saying that Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on Man Utd forward Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko was on Bayern’s radar before his move to Old Trafford but an uplift in form under Michael Carrick last season has proven he can perform for the Premier League side.

United have no intention of selling him and Sesko is likely to have a big role in the first team going forward.

United pursuing left-back leads

08:20 , Mike Jones

Man United are also in the hunt for a left-back to become the long-term replacement for Luke Shaw.

Two names top the list and those are Myles Lewis-Skelly of Arsenal and Lewis Hall of Newcastle.

Both would be tricky acquisitions.

Lewis-Skelly could perhaps be the easier of the two to secure a deal for especially if Arsenal get their two big-money deals (for Bruno Guimaraes and Vinicius Jr) over the line.

MLS was sidelined by Mikel Arteta for much of last season before coming good towards the end of the campaign but he isn’t a nailed on starter and the Gunners can afford to let him leave.

For Newcastle, they are having a summer to forget with the exodus of their best players and manager Eddie Howe mostly confirmed.

Hall could be the next in line but the Magpies have limited back up in the full-back roles and would demand a favourable price for the left-back.

Hall, reportedly, turned down the chance to move back to Chelsea meaning a switch to Old Trafford could be in the offing.

Arsenal make breakthrough in pursuit of Vinicius Junior

08:15 , Miguel Delaney

Arsenal have made progress in negotiations that could yet secure the sensational transfer of Vinicius Junior, with the outline of a personal deal agreed.

There is still a considerable way to go for any deal to happen, and the preference of both Real Madrid and the player is to stay at the Bernabeu.

Present realities may yet see Vinicius end up at Arsenal, however, as he only has a year left on his contract. The situation is said to now be entering the decisive period, and it is possible that the 26-year-old’s future is decided this week.

Bruno Guimaraes medical at Arsenal?

08:10 , Mike Jones

A report from The Times claims that Arsenal are hoping Bruno Guimaraes will have a medical at the club today despite not yet having a deal in place with Newcastle.

The Gunners are moving closer to an £80m move for the influential midfielder with Mikel Arteta wanting to sign big name players in the hopes of boosting Arsenal’s position in both the Premier League and Champions League.

The rumoured deal for Guimaraes - which is yet to become official - is for an initial £70m plus £10m in add ons.
