16:53

Mike Jones

The current price for Broja is £30m which Ipswich will pay if they remain in the top flight.

Manchester United transfer news and rumours: Manuel Ugarte in advanced talks, Ben Chilwell offered and more

16:52

Mike Jones

Manchester United have had a productive transfer window so far, strengthening their defence with the arrivals of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

New striker Joshua Zirkzee got off to the perfect start, too, scoring a late winner in the Premier League opener against Fulham.

But United’s summer business might not be finished yet. Injuries have again been an issue in the weeks leading up to the new season, and there remain areas of Erik ten Hag’s squad that could be strengthened.

Ramazani undergoing Leeds medical

16:45

Mike Jones

Sky Sports News are reporting that Largie Ramazani is undergoing a medical at Leeds United.

The clubs agreed a deal on Wednesday with Leeds seeing Ramazani as a direct replacement for Crysencio Summerville following his exit to West Ham.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke also wants a central midfielder, a full-back and a forward to replace Georginio Rutter after his exit to Brighton.

Latest on Nketiah deal

16:37

Mike Jones

Nottingham Forest are close to agreeing a fee with Arsenal for the transfer of Eddie Nketiah as talks progress over personal terms.

The Athletic that Forest had seen an opening bid worth £25m including add-ons rejected, having identified the England forward as their top target to bolster their attack.

Arsenal are looking for a figure more in the region of £30-35m with negotiations continuing as Forest push to bring Nketiah in.

The 25-year-old was close to joining Marseille earlier this summer but the clubs were unable to compromise on a price for the proposed switch.

Arsenal transfer news and rumours: Surprise move for Ademola Lookman and Mikel Merino deal close

16:30

Mike Jones

Arsenal have had a quiet transfer window so far, understandable given their almost-excellent 2023-24 season. The Gunners came within two points of ending Manchester City’s hegemony and winning a first Premier League title since 2004.

Small improvements will be needed if Mikel Areteta’s side are to overthrow City, who show no signs of slowing down under Pep Guardiola. The Gunners got off to the ideal start, beating Wolves 2-0 thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka.

The starting XI against Wolves was a familiar one, with substitute Riccardo Calafiori the only new addition, having arrived from Bologna earlier this summer.

The dela will see the Gunners pay €33m (£28.4m) alongside €5m in variables to secure the services of the midfielder, who is expected to sign a four-year contract plus a club option of a further year after undergoing a medical.

Mike Jones

Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth says that Girona have agreed a deal with Watford for midfielder Yaser Asprilla.

The fee is understood to be an initial £21.2m (€25m) plus performance-related add-ons and the midfielder is expected to undergo a medical this week ahead of the transfer.

Players Chelsea could sell to fund summer spending spree

16:14

Mike Jones

Carney Chukwuemeka

Captured from Aston Villa two summers ago as a player of real potential, injuries and a midfield logjam ahead of him have prevented Chukwuemeka making more of an impact. Maresca suggested that he might be wise to seek regular football elsewhere, saying after the Manchester City defeat: “Carney is a very good player but with his injuries in the past the best thing for him is to play 30, 35 games in a row and to show himself he’s fit and how good he is. With us, is he going to play 35 games? I’m not sure.”

Trevoh Chalobah

Another of those perhaps feeling now is the time to find a regular starting spot is centre-half Chalobah. A number of mid-table Premier League clubs have been linked with the 25-year-old.

Armando Broja

After enterprising loans at Vitesse and Southampton, eight appearances and no goals for Fulham last season represented a blow to Broja’s burgeoning career having been unable to force his way in to Chelsea’s forward mix. The Albanian looks bound for Ipswich on an initial loan deal that could become permanent, and may be a shrewd capture if his goals can keep the newly-promoted club in the top flight.

Players Chelsea could sell to fund summer spending spree

16:07

Mike Jones

Ben Chilwell

Chiwell has gone relatively quickly from key cog to fringe figure, captaining the side under Mauricio Pochettino in the Carabao Cup final in February but now firmly out of favour under new manager Maresca. A series of injuries have prevented the left-back kicking on in recent seasons but he will surely be coveted by plenty of clubs.

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Still the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, Kepa’s reputation is in need of repair after a tough time on loan at Real Madrid last season that saw him usurped by Andriy Lunin soon after Thibaut Courtois suffered a serious injury. A fresh start may do him some good.

Djorde Petrovic

Petrovic featured 23 times during his debut Premier League season, though may also be cut from the goalkeeper group as Maresca looks to sculpt his side. The Serbian could be available for a loan move or depart permanently.

Raheem Sterling

Two years since being made the first marquee signing after Boehly’s takeover, Sterling appears destined for pastures new after being a shock omission from the matchday squad against former club Manchester City. Potential Premier League destinations for a 29-year-old with plenty of football behind him appear limited but there is reported interest from Europe and Saudi Arabia.

Romelu Lukaku

The Belgian striker has spent the last two seasons on loan in Serie A, first with Inter Milan and then with Roma. A permanent switch to Italy now seems likely: Napoli, now under the management of Antonio Conte, are strong suitors.

Liverpool transfer news and rumours: Joan Garcia and Adrien Rabiot linked as Sepp van den Berg nears exit

15:53

Mike Jones

Reports have also emerged suggesting Liverpool might continue their pursuit of a new midfielder, despite their failure to get top target Martin Zubimendi.

According to L’Equipe, free agent Adrien Rabiotis a potential target as the France international looks to join a club playing Champions League football. The 29-year-old left Juventus at the end of last season after five years at the club and is now considering his options, with Bayern Munich and Inter also said to be interested.

Steve Cooper on strengthening before end of transfer window

15:46

Mike Jones

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper was asked about his club’s transfer business on Thursday and in particular if the club were being linked with anyone. He said: “Everybody. We are being linked with everybody. But, no names to mention.

“It is the same answer from managers around the country, when we have definite news we will let you know. We want to strengthen the squad. We want to keep a lot [of momentum] going from last year and part of that is adding and strengthening and we will look to do that with a week to go.

“Definitely an area we would like to add to [forward position after links with Jordan Ayew]. With what we have at the moment and some injuries it is one of the areas we would like strengthen.

“Might not be done in this window, but one we will look at.”

Ilkay Gundogan got a perfect Man City exit - but surprise return offers unexpected solution for all

15:39

Mike Jones

It transpires there is a way of replacing the irreplaceable. Manchester City missed Ilkay Gundogan and so Manchester City are signing Ilkay Gundogan. After one of the greatest goodbyes in footballing history, it may be something of a sheepish return for the German. And if a surprise sequel at the Etihad Stadium surely cannot have as perfect an ending as the first, for City a comeback can still seem to represent an unexpectedly perfect solution. They scarcely required a bargain – especially after Julian Alvarez’s £82m move to Atletico Madrid – but, on a free transfer, they have got one anyway.

City needed a midfielder capable of deputising for Rodri when he is missing but, given how many games the Spaniard plays, one capable of occupying another role as well. There are relatively few who meet Pep Guardiola’s exacting demands in terms of technique and tactical awareness, and normally newcomers can take time to adjust. Not with a 12-month sabbatical in Catalonia, though: after seven years and 304 games for City, Guardiola’s former neighbour has the experience and keen intellect to slot straight back in.

Alex Moreno leaves Villa for Forest

15:30

Mike Jones

Aston Villa’s busy summer continues, but this time it’s outgoings rather than incomings, as Alex Moreno is the odd man out at left-back after the arrival of Ian Maatsen. With Lucas Digne also at the club, the Spaniard has no future after being Unai Emery’s first signing at the club and has sealed a move to Nottingham Forest on loan.

There’s also an option for a permanent deal for Forest, who themselves have a handful of full-backs on the books already.

Harry Toffolo, Ola Aina and Omar Richards all play left-back, as well as Moreno now, with Aina getting the nod there on the opening weekend draw with Bournemouth.

Mainoo contract talks on the way

15:24

Mike Jones

More news of a contract extension from Sky Sports.

Reports suggest that Manchester United will sit down with midfield talisman Kobbie Mainoo for talks over a new contract once the transfer window has closed.

The 19-year-old’s current deal runs until 2027, with an option for an extra year, though United want to offer him improve terms.

Sky add that United are building a midfield around Mainoo, with the youngster seemingly happy with the direction the club are taking under Ineos.

Forest still in talks over Nketiah

15:15

Mike Jones

BBC Sport are reporting that Nottingham Forest are still in talks with Arsenal over a transfer for Eddie Nketiah.

A £30m deal is still on the cards and he’s “getting closer” to sealing the move.

Santiago Gimenez is Forest’s other striker target if they don’t get this transfer over the line - he’d be up against Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood for a starting spot as the No9.

Wolves make loan bid for Arsenal’s England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale

15:09

Mike Jones

Wolves have made an offer to sign Arsenal’s England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on a season-long loan.

The PA news agency understands the bid, submitted on Monday, also includes an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

Ramsdale fell out of favour last season as manager Mikel Arteta promoted David Raya to number one and he made just 11 appearances, only two of which came after the turn of the year.

Lopetegui on transfer signings

15:00

Mike Jones

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui was asked how the club’s new signings are settling in. He replied: “They’re not all in the same way because they’ve been with us for different amounts of time. It’s a process but the season is long and they’re all going to help us hugely.

“We’ve tried to adapt with the new players and we have to balance everything and try to be competitive.”

On potential further transfer activity he added: “In this time before the market closes, for everyone it’s still not certain who might come and go. We have to adapt.

“My focus is on the players who are here. They all have to be ready and that’s all we’re thinking about. We don’t want to talk about players who aren’t here, although it’s true that anything can happen.”

Will Liverpool sign Mamardashvili?

14:52

Mike Jones

The wait goes on for the first Liverpool signing of the summer with just over a week until the transfer window closes.

Arne Slot inherited a strong squad after replacing Jurgen Klopp, but there is still a feeling that one or two additions might be necessary to make his team real contenders.

And it seems a new goalkeeper could be the most significant move of the summer. While a deal to sign Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili is believed to be close, the Reds have also been linked with Espanyol No.1 Joan Garcia.

Mundo Deportivo report that Liverpool are keeping tabs on the 23-year-old Spaniard, although Arsenal are said to have agreed personal terms with Garcia. He has a €30m release clause at Espanyol but no bids have been made as yet, according to the newspaper.

Man Utd defender set for £2m Cardiff move

14:37

Mike Jones

Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth and Amar Mehta are saying that Manchester United defender Will Fish has travelled to Cardiff to complete a medical ahead of a permanent move to Wales.

The agreed fee is around £2m and United have included a sell-on clause in the deal.

Newcastle interest in Guehi still alive

14:30

Mike Jones

Newcastle have had four bids for Marc Guehi turned down by Crystal Palace and are actively considering alternative options. That could potentially be a negotiating tactic as their interest in Guehi remains alive.

The latest bid, rising to £65m was rejected but a higher offer may be enough to tempt Palace who can expect a lower offer for Guehi next summer as he enters the last year of his contract.

Palace are reluctant to lose two centre-backs after agreeing a fee with Fulham to sell Joachim Andersen for around £30m. Chairman Steve Parrish had told BBC Sport, “I can’t imagine a situation where we would lose both of our centre-halves.”

City consider move for Celtic striker

14:22

Mike Jones

The Athletic’s Sam Lee is reporting that Manchester City are considering a move for Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi.

He adds that City’s main focus is on finalising the deal for Gundogan before they decide whether to go for a striker as a replacement for Julian Alvarez.

Furuhashi scored in Celtic’s 4-3 win over City in preseason.

United offered loan with obligation to buy for Ugarte – but PSG’s valuation remains too high

14:14

Mike Jones

The Daily Mail reports that PSG have offered a loan with obligation to buy deal to Manchester United for Manuel Ugarte, allowing him to join the club this season with United agreeing to pay £51m for the Uruguayan next summer.

However, United deem that valuation too high from PSG – they value Ugarte at around £42m, while PSG want to recoup the entire fee they paid to Sporting.

Ugarte made 37 appearances for the French champions last season, but was left out of the squad for their Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre last week.

Palace submit bid for Lacroix

14:07

Mike Jones

Further to that comment on Palace’s interest in Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the south London side have nowmade a bid for the French defender.

The proposed deal is reportedly worth £12m as a fixed fee plus £2m in add-ons.

Romano adds that “Lacroix wants to leave Wolfsburg and has only one year left on his contract, while Glasner considers him among top targets”.

Southampton not in a race for Jack Clarke

14:00

Mike Jones

Sunderland winger Jack Clarke has been linked with a move away from the club in this window but Southampton boss Russell Martin says his team are not in the race for his signature.

Martin said: “He is a player who has played very well in the Championship over the past few seasons.

“We are linked with a number of players and some are miles away, some I’ve never even heard of, others have been one chat or a few videos.

“That position is not one we are light on numbers in at the moment; Ben Brereton Diaz plays there, we have other guys who can operate there, so it is not high on the priority list right now.

“He is a very talented player, his agent is a good friend of mine, they would know if we are in that race right now and we are not.”

Sterling, Chilwell, Fofana and Tosin left out of Chelsea squad

13:53

Mike Jones

Chelsea are preparing for tonight’s Uefa Conference League play-off against Servette.

Manager Enzo Maresca has named his matchday squad with does not feature the likes of Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo.

New signing Joao Felix will not be involved either.

Maresca said yesterday: “We are for sure going to try to win, hopefully we can win, and start tomorrow winning a game in the official competition.

“I am just focused on the game, not thinking what happens if we don’t win and these kinds of things.”

Andy Robertson feeling good after playing through the pain last season

13:45

Mike Jones

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson says he is pain free for the first time in five months.

The 30-year-old, who dislocated a shoulder on international duty in October, sustained an ankle ligament injury playing for Scotland again in March and found things difficult as the domestic season moved towards its conclusion before also featuring at Euro 2024.

Robertson also had a minor problem over the summer which restricted him to only 60 minutes in pre-season, when he started the friendly against Sevilla despite travelling to America with the squad.

The Bavarians, record German champions and the country’s wealthiest club, were upstaged last season by Bayer Leverkusen, who stormed to a domestic league and cup double without defeat.

Former Belgium international Kompany, who replaced Thomas Tuchel in the dugout, has been working to restore order in the Bayern ranks and instil confidence among his players.

What’s going on with Jadon Sancho?

13:07

Mike Jones

Jadon Sancho’s future at Manchester United has been in doubt ever since he fell out with Erik ten Hag almost 12 months ago, claiming on social media that he had been made a “scapegoat” following criticism from the manager.

The England winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund before resolving his differences with Ten Hag.

Sancho came off the bench in the Community Shield at Wembley but was omitted from the matchday squad for United’s league opener against Fulham.

Paris St Germain are keen on Sancho with Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte – who did not feature in the French club’s Ligue 1 opener at Le Havre – possibly moving the other way, while Fulham reportedly remain interested in United midfielder Scott McTominay.

Will Newcastle manage to secure Guehi?

13:00

Mike Jones

Marc Guehi was always going to be in demand after Euro 2024 and so it has proved with Newcastle boss Eddie Howe identifying the 24-year-old as his top summer signing.

Newcastle have reportedly had four offers rejected by Palace, with the latest said to be worth £60m plus £5m in add-ons.

Guehi showed his continued commitment to Palace by captaining the side at Brentford, but Eagles fans will remain nervous that they could lose him and fellow defender Joachim Andersen, a Fulham target, before the window closes.

Raheem Sterling training at home amid bitter Chelsea fallout – as Pedro Neto takes shirt number

12:52

Mike Jones

Raheem Sterling has been training on his own since Friday, as Chelsea have made it clear that the England international is not a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans for the season.

Chelsea have already left Sterling out of their two matchday squads this year, their opening defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League, and their Europa Conference League fixture on Thursday.

Sterling joined the club from Manchester City for £50m two years ago, and has come to a mutual agreement with the club to spend time training at his house, rather than the club’s training facilities in Cobham, The Times reported.

Arsenal still in for Merino?

12:45

Mike Jones

There could be a familiar name at Arsenal if manager Mikel Arteta gets his way.

Arteta is seeking the final piece in the Gunners’ jigsaw after pushing champions Manchester City all the way last season, and the Basque could return to hometown club Real Sociedad for a spot of late transfer business.

Mikel Merino was impressive during Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, featuring in all seven games and scoring the quarter-final winner against Germany.

The 28-year-old has a year left on his current Sociedad deal and, standing at 6ft 2ins, would add further aerial strength to that provided by Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhaes, Kai Havertz, William Saliba and new recruit Riccardo Calafiori.

Sevilla eye up Barco

12:37

Mike Jones

Sevilla are hoping to secure a deal to sign Brighton defender Valentin Barco on loan, according to The Athletic. The 20-year-old joined Brighton from Boca Juniors in January and has only made seven appearances.

Sevilla’s push for Barco comes after they agreed to sell Marcos Acuna to River Plate.

Will there be exits at Chelsea?

12:30

Mike Jones

After a summer of yet more arrivals at Stamford Bridge, it seems inevitable there will be departures in the final days of the window to reduce the numbers of Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Raheem Sterling’s future was placed into sharp focus when he was left out of the Blues squad for Sunday’s 2-0 defeat by Manchester City and his representatives released a statement questioning the decision.

While Sterling’s camp called for “further clarity” on the future of the England international, Conor Gallagher has already completed a move to Spain.

He’s joined Atletico Madrid in a joint deal that sent Joao Felix in the opposite direction. Expect more exits to come before the end of the window.

Ivan Toney heading to Saudi Arabia?

12:22

Mike Jones

Ivan Toney appears to have played his last game for Brentford after being left out of their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.

The England striker missed Sunday’s 2-1 win with Bees boss Thomas Frank revealing his absence was due to “transfer interest” and that Brentford opted to leave him out.

Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli are reportedly keen and £60m would secure the services of the 28-year-old who has one year left on his contract.

The Saudi side remain far away from that valuation however as do potential Premier League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United who have moved on to other targets.

Trippier to leave Newcastle?

12:20

Mike Jones

Sky Sports and The Athletic are reporting that Kieran Trippier is prepared to leave Newcastle before the transfer window closes with Everton a potential destination.

Trippier was the first signing by the Newcastle’s new ownership in January 2022 and has been a central figure in the club’s rise to the top half of the Premier League.

The 33-year-old was an unused substitute in Saturday’s opening-weekend victory over Southampton after Eddie Howe selected Tino Livramento at right-back.

The captain’s armband, which Trippier has worn for most of his time at St James’ Park, has also been given to Bruno Guimaraes suggesting that the defender’s playing time this season will be limited.

Trippier has two years left on his contract but wants to play regular football even if that means at a different club.

Everton have held initial conversations with Newcastle to express interest in bringing him to Merseyside on loan. Everton manager Sean Dyche and Trippier worked together while at Burnley between 2012-2015.

Xabi Alonso braces Leverkusen for Bundesliga defence as Vincent Kompany’s Bayern empire strikes back

12:07

Mike Jones

After years of superiority came the ultimate proof of domination, the Invincible season, the German team who completed the campaign without losing to German opposition. Except that, after 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles, Bayern Munich relinquished their crown. The unbeaten, unstoppable side were Bayer Leverkusen. ‘Neverkusen’ – or ‘Vizekusen’ in German – were rebranded ‘Winnerkusen’: they added the Supercup and the German Cup to their maiden Bundesliga title, aided by an improbable, seemingly unstoppable, torrent of injury-time winners.

German football had a different kind of predictability. As the Bundesliga resumes this weekend, it is with an added attention on the slighted, deposed Germans. Bayern’s response to losing their crown was unorthodox. Accustomed as they are to raiding their closest challengers, they were instead slighted when Xabi Alonso chose to remain at Leverkusen. Instead of a manager whose lone loss last season came to Atalanta in the Europa League final, they opted for one defeated 26 times: Vincent Kompany, relegated with Burnley.

Brighton ready to get record buy Rutter into the side

11:57

Karl Matchett

Brighton’s record signing of £40m Georginio Rutter means they have plenty of firepower this season and he might be straight into the group this weekend for Fabian Hurzeler.

“We will have to wait to see how he has adapted but he has played some games in pre-season for Leeds. He has integrated fast into the group which is the main thing, but I am also convinced he will be able to help us on the pitch as he has something special,” he said.

Brighton have Rutter, Danny Welbeck, Joao Pedro and Evan Ferguson available as strikers now.

Liverpool keen on Espanyol goalkeeper

11:49

Karl Matchett

Liverpool have been widely linked with Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili over the last few days, with a buy-and-loan-back deal seemingly in the works.

But he might not be the only stopper from LaLiga they want though, as Mundo Deportivo say they’ve joined Arsenal in chasing Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, who starred for them last term.

Arsenal have been first in the running it seems, but now the Reds have joined them - either one signing him could signal their own second-choice goalkeepers are on the move, with Aaron Ramsdale targeted by Wolves recently and Caoimhin Kelleher having drawn interest from some clubs earlier in summer.

Chelsea and Napoli meet for Lukaku future

11:38

Karl Matchett

Sky Sports are reporting today is a big day for Chelsea as Giovanni Manna, Napoli's sporting director, is heading to meet club officials.

The No1 item on the agenda is Romelu Lukaku, with the Italian side only offering €30m including add-ons and Chelsea wanting more - but only willing to discuss a permament deal too.

Antonio Conte wants Lukaku, Napoli lost on the opening day and Chelsea don’t want Lukaku on their books any longer - and the striker himself has no current other options in Europe.

Ilkay Gundogan having medical at Man City

11:29

Karl Matchett

After only one year away and still with two on his Barcelona contract, Ilkay Gundogan is back at Man City and set to sign a one-year deal.

He’s having a medical for City ahead of a free transfer, with Barca simply wanting him off the books given his enormous wages and their summer outlay on Dani Olmo.

Gundogan’s deal is widely reported to include the option of a second year if he completes his move and rejoins Pep Guardiola. He’s now 33 years old.

Leicester want Ayew from Palace

11:20

Karl Matchett

Another player might be departing Crystal Palace now, with Jordan Ayew on Leicester City’s agenda as they continue strengthening and seeking to stay in the Premier League.

The Foxes want the versatile forward on a quick deal, with the Palace man having one year left on his contract and looking well outside Oliver Glasner’s preferred list of attackers.

DONE DEAL: Liverpool sell young midfielder Bobby Clark to Salzburg

11:11

Richard Jolly

Liverpool have sold midfielder Bobby Clark to RB Salzburg in a £10m deal.

The Premier League club will also have a 17.5 per cent sell-on clause and a matching-rights agreement if they want to buy him back.

Clark will be reunited with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders, who has taken charge of the Austrian club and could be playing Champions League football after Salzburg beat Dynamo Kiev 2-0 in the first leg of their play-off.

The 19-year-old becomes the second player to
