The transfer deadline is a day away as Premier League clubs scramble to complete last-minute business before the end of the window.

Liverpool have completed the signing of Federico Chiesa from Juventus for an initial £10m. The Italy international winger has signed a four-year deal at Anfield as he becomes the first outfield signing for Liverpool’s new regime under Arne Slot.

Elsewhere, Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho is wanted by Juventus, who are set to sign the winger on loan with an option to buy, but the former England international is still holding out for an offer from Chelsea. The Blues are likely to be the busiest club before the deadline as they look to move on Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, while adding more signings.

Chelsea are still looking to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but Ivan Toney has also been linked and the Stamford Bridge club have made a fresh move for the Brentford forward. Elsewhere, Arsenal have been linked with Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman, while Manchester United will finally finish off the move for PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Wolves sign

19:00

Jack Rathborn

Wolves have signed Bastien Meupiyou from Ligue 1 side Nantes.

The central defender joins Wolves on a five-year deal, with Sporting director Matt Hobbs thrilled at the young Frenchman’s arrival.

“This is our model and is probably our strength as well,” Hobbs says. “We're very good at looking in that emerging talent market and I think Bastien’s got a huge amount of potential. Obviously, he had some time out last season with a knee injury, so we'll take our time with him, but he has an incredibly high ceiling and we're excited to help develop him.

“He’s very physical, very strong, very quick. But also, he's played lot at six, a lot at left back as well. It’s not often you can find a big, physical profile that comes with the ability to play on the ball and to play in all those positions.

“He fits what we think a Premier League player looks like. There's no pressure on him, he's a young boy, and we'll look forward to seeing how he develops the next couple of years.

“I believe he'll get himself to the highest level he can, because he's driven to do that, and we’ll provide everything to support that. There’s no time pressure for him on anything, no set journey, just a really young, talented boy, and we're excited to have him here, and we're really excited to help him get to the best level that he can possibly achieve.”

Zaha not coming back to Premier League

16:15

Karl Matchett

The Standard report that Crystal Palace were among the teams looking at bringing Wilf Zaha back to the Premier League, but that is all but over and done with - “tax issues” mean his salary is unable to be matched.

It’s less about his Galatasaray salary, but more that he’d be liable to pay income tax in both the UK and Turkey, the report claims.

Everton target ex-United midfielder

16:00

Karl Matchett

Sofyan Amrabat didn’t impress too often at Man Utd but Everton have made an enquiry for him according to TalkSport.

However they were also linked with Orel Mangala yesterday as a middle of the park reinforcement.

Federico Chiesa ‘really emotional’ to become a Liverpool player

15:00

Jamie Braidwood

“I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans. So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.

“It’s a dream that has become a reality. When I hear the word Liverpool I think of trophies, victories and the great nights in the Champions League at Anfield.

“It’s really emotional for me. I can’t wait to hear the anthem and hear all of the 60,000 fans singing You’ll Never Walk Alone. I will give everything for this shirt and the fans. Forza Liverpool.”

Why have Liverpool signed Chiesa for just £10m?

14:01

Richard Jolly

Liverpool felt the price for Chiesa, who was in the last year of his contract, was a bargain.

He had cost Juventus €50m while they noted the comparable price paid for wingers this summer, with Chelsea spending £52m on Pedro Neto and £46m on Joao Felix. Liverpool believe that, until recently, Chiesa would have been valued at £80m-£100m.

They also wanted to bring a sixth attacker and a fourth winger to give manager Arne Slot more options in attack and feel his pace and style of football make him well suited to the Premier League.

Sporting director Richard Hughes, who was appointed this summer, has a particular knowledge of the Italian market while Chiesa has been on Liverpool’s radar since his days at Fiorentina.

Jadon Sancho wanted by two clubs

13:45

Karl Matchett

Man United could yet offload Jadon Sancho today or tomorrow with Sky Sports reporting two types of deal possible.

Chelsea want a permanent deal and believe he wants to go to them, but Juventus remain in the hunt - but only for a loan.

The Blues might only sign him if Raheem Sterling leaves, while Juve will be one winger down once Liverpool complete the signing of Federico Chiesa. United want Sancho gone regardless of whether they sign Sterling, but Juve might need United to pay part of Sancho’s wages.

Second Liverpool midfielder heading to Salzburg

13:30

Karl Matchett

Barcelona and Celta Vigo had been among the interested clubs but he’s off to Austria, linking up with his old assistant manager, with Pepijn Lijnders now head coach at Salzburg.

13:05

Karl Matchett

Former Chelsea and Arsenal winger Willian left Fulham last term and says he might take another club up in the Premier League - but he has offers elsewhere too.

“I decided to leave Fulham much before the end of the season, in January or February. I had it in my mind that I would leave after speaking with my agent and family,” he said.

“I am looking at some options at the moment. I am thinking about possibilities in Europe, England, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the MLS - just not Brazil as an option for me.

“I am trying to see all the possibilities and think about making the right decision right now. I have some offers already and this is the key moment to decide my next challenge.”

Newcastle face new headache in Marc Guehi transfer saga with rivals content to wait

08:40

Miguel Delaney

Newcastle United‘s prospective move for Marc Guehi has stalled, with Crystal Palace refusing to move from a valuation of at least £70m.

Although there is hope the deal can be done, progress has been extremely slow in the last week of the window so far, and it is expected to go the wire.

Palace are pressing ahead with the £15m of Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg anyway, partly because Guehi’s contract is up in two years and they will lose leverage. Personal terms are still yet to be agreed with Lacroix.

The FA Cup winners will pay an initial €50m for the 23-year-old, with a possible extra €10m in add-ons, and he will undergo a medical.

Ugarte’s arrival will take their summer spending to around £200m after buying centre-backs Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, full-back Noussair Mazraoui and forward Joshua Zirkzee.

The signing of Ugarte means United will have strengthened every outfield department of their side. They believe the former Sporting Lisbon player, who was named in the team of the tournament at the Copa America, is one of the best young midfielders in the game.

Executives of both have been discussing whether they can resolve a number of squad issues with mutually beneficial deals, particularly the futures of Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho and Chilwell.

The left-back had been proposed by Chelsea due to United’s struggles in that area with Luke Shaw’s injury record, but the Old Trafford hierarchy have decided to press on with their own options. It is understood the figures involved in any prospective deal, as one factor, were way apart.

Richard Jolly

Liverpool have agreed a £10m fee with Juventus for Federico Chiesa.
