KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 — A total of 3,087 fatalities involving all types of road accidents were recorded between January and June this year.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that according to statistics on fatal accidents during that period, two cases were recorded involving accidents under the influence of alcohol, BuletinTV3 reported today.

He said offences related to driving under the influence of alcohol are covered under Sections 44, 45 and 45A of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).

“Section 44 covers offences where an individual drives under the influence of intoxicating liquor and causes the death of, or injury to, any person; Section 45 pertains to being in charge of a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor.

“In addition, Section 45A refers to driving or being in charge of a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration exceeding the prescribed limit,” he said in a written reply published on Parliament’s website.

Loke was responding to a question from Wan Razali Wan Nor (PN-Kuantan), who asked for the number of road accidents involving drunk drivers and how many of those cases resulted in convictions between January 2022 and June 2025.
