JOHOR BAHRU - The proposal paper on the Traveller Scheme, which provides social security protection for Malaysians working abroad, particularly in Singapore, is in its final stage of preparation, with tabling in Parliament set to begin today, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

He said the Ministry of Human Resources (Kesuma), together with the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), is currently finalising the process of obtaining the necessary approvals.

Ramanan said the approval process for the scheme is expected to be completed as early as August, prior to its implementation.

"As the Parliament sitting begins tomorrow (today), we will begin the process of tabling the proposal paper. We will also hold engagement sessions with members of Parliament to explain the benefits of the programme.

"Once the proposal paper is approved by the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara, this scheme will be implemented as soon as possible to provide social security protection for Johoreans commuting between Johor and Singapore,” he said on Saturday.

The Lindung Kerjaya Madani Carnival brought together 20 employers, offering more than 2,000 job vacancies, including highly skilled positions with competitive salaries of up to RM16,000 a month.

Ramanan further said the scheme was expected to provide social security protection to about 480,000 Malaysians who commute daily between Johor and Singapore.

He said the Travellers Scheme would be implemented through the expansion of protection coverage under Act 789 or the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme under Perkeso, allowing eligible individuals to make contributions to access the eight types of benefits offered. -BERNAMA
