
BEAUFORT: Police detained three men in separate drug-related enforcement operations in Beaufort, with two testing positive for drugs.
Beaufort police chief Supt Champin Piuh said the first suspect, aged 26, was detained and screened during an operation conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.
He said a urine test found the suspect positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
“The suspect was detained and placed in the Beaufort Police Station lock-up for further action under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Champin said police later conducted an enforcement operation in front of a business premises in Kampung Bakalau, where a 46-year-old man was detained.
A urine test on the second suspect also returned positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, he said.
“The suspect was detained and taken to the Beaufort Police Station lock-up for further action under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
In a separate crime prevention patrol covering Beaufort town, Taman Muhibbah, Taman Foh Sang and the Bingkul commercial area, police also checked a man behind KFC.
Champin said checks revealed that the man had a previous criminal record related to drugs.
He said the man was detained for crime prevention purposes and to undergo a urine screening test.
Champin said the Beaufort Police Station would continue to intensify patrols and checks to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
