Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier does not expect the club to alter their transfer strategy.
The Magpies have focused on the character of players they secure, rather than judging solely on ability.
Trippier arrived at the club last January, shortly after manager Eddie Howe was appointed by new ownership.
In an interview with BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand, Trippier was asked whether the Magpies would step up transfer spending in the summer.
Trippier told Vibe with Five: "I feel like they've taken the right steps in terms of which characters they brought in when we were in the relegation fight. Good characters, good around the place, no egos in our dressing room.
"I think Dan Ashworth has done a great job, I've known Dan for many years. I think it depends on where we finish and stuff like this...but I don't know.
"It's a tough question to ask. It's not all about going and spending 80 million on a player, it has to be the right player, and the right character for this dressing room. The manager is big on that, you have to be the right character to be in our team."
