After the success of the 2022 Norwegian monster movie Troll, Netflix released a sequel, Troll 2, in December 2025. While the movie ends on a bittersweet note, the makers have left a hint that has fans wondering whether or not there will be a Troll 3. Let’s find out.
The Netflix film franchise is inspired by Norwegian folklore and mythology about indigenous creatures believed to exist before they were exterminated by Christian colonisers. In fact, the theme of Christianity versus Paganism lingers throughout the narrative of Troll 2, as the protagonists delve deeper into the history of trolls in Norway.
The fantasy sequel is set three years after the events of the first film and tells the story of two trolls, Beautiful and Megatroll, who wreak havoc across Norway, leading the adventurous Nora, Andreas and Captain Kris into their most dangerous mission yet.
Is Troll 3 in the works?
As of December 2025, Troll 3 remains unconfirmed, with no official information available. However, when asked about a potential expansion of the franchise, director Roar Uthaug told Netflix’s Tudum: “I really love being in this Troll universe… I see a lot of potential in how we could expand it even further, if we were to continue this saga.”
Additionally, in a mid-credits scene, Professor Møller (played by Jon Ketil Johnsen) is shown holding a tiny troll captive in a glass box, which he has created using a part of Megatroll’s body. He is seen speaking to someone on the phone, sharing that the specimen has been developed and that “it doesn’t look like much now, but just give it some time.” This leaves plenty of room for a possible expansion of the franchise.
What happens at the end of Troll 2?

At the end of Troll 2, Andreas (played by Kim Falck) is killed in the battle between Megatroll and Beautiful, sacrificing himself for the greater good. Nora (played by Ine Marie Wilmann), Kris (played by Mads Pettersen), and Marion (played by Sara Khorami) return to their peaceful lives, co-existing with Beautiful after defeating Megatroll.
