KUALA LUMPUR - Tropical Storm Senyar has weakened into a low-pressure system, but MetMalaysia warns it could still unleash heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas across parts of the peninsula until tomorrow.

Director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the storm was centred over the peninsula’s middle region after making landfall around midnight along the coast between Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

He added that Senyar is expected to track eastward towards the South China Sea, bringing more rain, fierce winds and choppy seas, especially in Pahang and Terengganu.

“Despite weakening, rain cloud activity remains strong. MetMalaysia will keep monitoring closely and issue updates or warnings if conditions change significantly,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Mohd Hisham urged the public to stay alert and follow the latest forecasts and warnings via MetMalaysia’s website, the myCuaca app, official social media channels, or hotline 1-300-22-1638.

Yesterday, he noted the storm had entered the Strait of Melaka at 3.30 pm, triggering heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas in Selangor, Perak and parts of Pahang.

Malaysia has only faced two direct tropical storms before: Greg in western Sabah on Dec 26, 1996, and Vamei in southern Peninsular Malaysia on Dec 26, 2001. - November 28, 2025
