Tropical storm to be coincidentally named Dolly following country legend’s passing

• Country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80 following a ‘brief battle with cancer’.
• The next tropical storm to develop in the Atlantic this hurricane season will be named Dolly.
• However, the timing is not connected to Parton’s passing on Tuesday. Storm systems are named by procedures set by the World Meteorological Organization, with the lists of names reused every six years.
• The lists are alphabetical and alternate male and female names for the Atlantic region.
• The National Hurricane Centre was monitoring a weather system off Africa that could strengthen into a named tropical storm.
