US President Donald Trump says that peace negotiations between Washington and Tehran are continuing.

"Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform on Monday.

Prior to this, broadcaster CNBC had quoted Trump as saying that the other side had taken too long and that the negotiations had "started to get very boring."

The US and Iran have been wrangling over a framework agreement to extend the ceasefire that has been in place since April 8 and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the truce, both sides have repeatedly exchanged fire.

The US and Israel launched the war against Iran on February 28.
