Trump unloads on Fox News and turns to CNN for relief as bleak midterms news rolls in

As millions of Americans were still heading to the polls on Election Day, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to lash out at Fox News, one of his preferred networks, in a series of raging posts.

Trump criticized a liberal female Fox News commentator, attacked the network’s polling and claimed its ratings were plummeting “because they are AGAINST me!” At the same time, he turned to CNN for relief, amplifying clips from the network’s chief data analyst.

The anti-Fox tirade came as polls suggest Republicans could face steep midterm losses — potentially costing the party control of both the House and Senate — amid voter frustration over the cost of living and the Iran war.

Despite negative polling, the administration remains “cautiously optimistic,” a White House official told The Independent on Tuesday. “The President has left it all out on the field and he’s done everything that was needed,” the official said.

In a Truth Social post shortly before the first polls closed Tuesday, Trump bashed Jessica Tarlov, a liberal commentator and co-host of The Five.

“Watching the Pre-Election Results on FoxNews, but I can't stand Jessica Tarlov's voice — DUMB AS A ROCK, but it's the voice that gets me,” the 80-year-old president wrote. “Have to go somewhere else until that LOSER is off the air — I'll be back later!”

A frequent Trump critic, Tarlov has slammed the president’s handling of the cost of living, accused him of corruption and questioned his cognitive health. Trump, for his part, has repeatedly singled her out, once calling her “one of the Least Attractive and Talented People on all of Television.”

Last month, Tarlov responded to the president’s frequent attacks, asking: “Why is this man not busier? There are better things to do.” After the president’s latest attack, she wrote on X: “I realize my comments highlighting the highest gas prices on any Election Day aggravated the president, but reality is a tricky thing and he should get better at dealing with it.”

Later on Tuesday evening, the president followed up with another post attacking Fox News, this time targeting the network’s polling.

“The FoxNews Poll, always the worst, is so insulting with the questions they ask,” the president wrote. “Every question is a hit job, and every answer is ‘BULL****!’ This has been going on for years.”

Trump’s approval rating fell to a record-low 36 percent in a Fox poll this month, as the network projected for the first time that Democrats were likely to win control of the House.

At 7 p.m., Trump launched his third attack on Fox, claiming the network’s ratings were plunging because it had turned against him.

“FoxNews Ratings are way down (27%!) because they’re spending too much time covering the Trump Deranged Dumocrats,” the president wrote. “All of those people who used to watch Fox, and no longer do, get it. It’s them, not me — My numbers are better than they have ever been.”

“No wonder FoxNews Ratings are collapsing, and they’re going to go down a lot further,” he added. “They’re way down, not because of me, but because they are AGAINST me!”

The president has long had a love-hate relationship with Fox News, appearing frequently on its programs while attacking its coverage on social media when he considers it unfair. Tensions flared in 2020 when the network called Arizona for Joe Biden, drawing the ire of Trump and his supporters.

Also on Tuesday night, Trump shared several clips featuring CNN’s chief data analyst, who the president has called ‘the best person on CNN’ (CNN)

Between posts bashing Fox on Tuesday, the president shared several CNN clips featuring the network’s chief data analyst, Harry Enten. In one, Enten discussed polling showing Trump’s support among MAGA supporters remains strong. In another, he highlighted a poll showing that a majority of Republicans named Trump as the president they most admire.

Trump has described Enten as the “best person on CNN” and played clips of him at his midterm rallies.

But Enten has also highlighted polling data predicting a grim outcome for Republicans in the midterms.

Last month, he warned of a Democratic “blowout” on Election Day. Discussing a separate Reuters-Ipsos poll that put the president’s approval rating at a record low, he said, “I mean this is a five-alarm Trumpster fire.”
