Kota Kinabalu: The Pan Borneo Highway stretch connecting Tuaran to Putatan, including the Sepanggar section, is targeted for completion by the end of this year, with progress currently at 95 per cent.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said he had directed that remaining works be expedited to relieve severe congestion and smooth traffic flow.
Speaking after officiating the Madani Kita 2026 programme at the Manggatal Community Hall on Saturday, he noted that the highway would divert traffic and enable motorists heading towards Beaufort and Papar to bypass the state capital entirely.
He explained that heavy vehicular traffic, particularly lorries, had caused repeated road damage and recurring potholes in areas such as Tebobon, especially following downpours.
Mustapha added that the Public Works Department and contractors have been instructed to carry out ongoing maintenance to keep existing stretches safe until Packages 6, 7, and 8 are fully completed.
