THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) expects to complete the rehabilitation of the Tuguegarao Airport by December, ensuring an improved gateway for travelers.
This follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s order to refurbish regional airports nationwide to attract tourists and boost investments and businesses in the provinces.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the renovation was aimed at enhancing regional connectivity in northern Luzon.
“When the airports are well-maintained and modern, more passengers and tourists will be encouraged to visit the province, which will result in the growth of tourism and business,” he said.
Once rehabilitated, the airport is expected to accommodate 743 passengers from the current 212.
Lopez said that additional developments are also expected to be finished by September 2027, including a redesigned interior and exterior spaces for the passenger terminal building.
The airport's seating capacity will be increased by another 150 seats.
Lopez also ordered the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to acquire a modern fire truck that meets international standards.
Aside from the expansion of the passenger terminal building, the rehabilitation of said airport also includes airport night-rating, construction of an administration building and lengthening of the runway to accommodate larger aircraft.
