MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Raffy Tulfo on Wednesday said he would prefer to have the Supreme Court settle whether to retain the 16-vote threshold for conviction in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Speaking to reporters, Tulfo said he and other senator-judges will first hear differing opinions from the amici curiae or friends of the court before deciding how to proceed.
"That’s why we’re going to get, so to speak, friends of the court to give us their opinions,"Tulfo said, noting that some legal experts may support lowering the threshold while others may oppose it.
"So we’ll carefully analyze all of that. Later, we will decide to adopt," he added.
