SHAH ALAM - National Journalism Laureate Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar described the late Tun Dr Hasmah Mohamad Ali as a source of strength and resilience for her husband, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Johan said he was travelling somewhere in the Himalayas when he received the news of Hasmah’s passing and was deeply saddened by it.
“She was Tun Mahathir’s soulmate and a strong source of strength and resilience. She was the true First Lady. We loved her for her strength, wisdom and guidance,” he said on Monday.
The late Dr Hasmah passed away at the age of 100 and leaving behind seven children.
She married Dr Mahathir in 1956 and they had four biological children, Marina, Mirzan, Mokhzani and Mukhriz, as well as three adopted children, Melinda, Mazhar and Maizura.
The late Dr Hasmah was laid to rest at the National Mausoleum in Precinct 20, Putrajaya at 6.20pm on Monday and was accorded the State Funeral Ceremony for National Leaders.
Johan added that the late Dr Hasmah had always been a source of hope for women in the country, inspiring them to achieve success.
“May her soul be placed among the souls of the faithful. Al-Fatihah,” he said.
