HULU LANGAT - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he leaves it to his lead counsel Gobind Singh Deo to handle the defamation suit against him initiated by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"I have my lawyers, so let them do their job," he said when met by reporters at Medan Selera 7, Jalan Persiaran Majlis, Banting before performing Friday prayers at Jamek As-Solihin Mosque in Kancong Darat, here, today.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir filed a RM150 million defamation lawsuit against Anwar over the latter's speech during the PKR Special National Congress, themed "Malaysia Madani, Implementation of Idealism", in March.

Dr Mahathir claimed that in Anwar's speech, he had accused him of enriching himself and his family members.

The defamation suit was filed at the Shah Alam High Court through lawfirm Law Practice of Rafique on May 3, naming Anwar as the sole defendant.

In Dr Mahathir's statement of claim, he claimed that the entire programme was broadcasted live through among others on Anwar's Facebook live and PKR Youtube channel.

The former prime minister claimed that the defamation suit involved several statements made by Anwar that were mixed with malicious slander and accusations aimed at bringing him down and damage his reputation and image.
