Turkish authorities have banned public viewing events for the national team's World Cup match against Paraguay at short notice.
The cancellations were ordered nationwide by Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, a member of the ruling AKP party, the Hürriyet daily reported on Friday.
The aim is to reduce noise and potential traffic disruption that could affect candidates sitting Turkey's nationwide university entrance examination, known as the YKS.
The match, which will be played in Santa Clara, California, starts late on Friday in the United States but early on Saturday in Turkey. It is crucial for the national team after its opening defeat to Australia.
Another loss would leave coach Vincenzo Montella's side facing elimination from the group stage. Turkey's final group match is against tournament co-hosts the United States.
Hürriyet reported that governors in several provinces urged fans to refrain from sounding car horns, organizing celebratory motorcades or making excessive noise after the game.
Such measures are not unusual in Turkey, where YKS results determine whether students are admitted to university and which institution they may attend.
Nearly all public and private universities allocate places on the basis of YKS scores.
