Turkish police have detained 27 people as part of an investigation into alleged irregular occupancy permits linked to projects by jailed Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's seized construction firm, state news agency Anadolu reported on Tuesday.

The police carried out raids in Istanbul and two other provinces, targeting municipal, construction and building inspection firm employees, Anadolu said, adding that one suspect was believed to be abroad.

The investigation concerns allegations that several projects in Istanbul's Beylikdüzü district received occupancy permits despite violating zoning regulations, Anadolu cited the Istanbul chief public prosecutor's office as saying.

Suspects are accused of forgery of official documents, zoning violations and fraud against public institutions.

İmamoğlu Construction, formerly owned by the İmamoğlu family, was seized by Turkish authorities in 2025 following the Istanbul mayor's detention as part of a wider corruption investigation.

The probe forms part of a broader investigation into what prosecutors describe as a criminal network linked to İmamoğlu, a potential challenger to long-time President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

İmamoğlu has repeatedly denied the allegations against him, describing the investigations and court cases as politically motivated.
