POLICE have detained 12 people in connection with a disturbance that broke out at Melor Public Market in Kota Bharu, as investigations continue into an alleged assault involving members of two families.
The arrests followed a police report lodged by a 19-year-old woman, who claimed she was attacked by another woman in her 20s during an incident that occurred at about 2.30pm.
Kota Bharu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the confrontation escalated when family members of both the complainant and the suspect became involved, turning the incident into a wider brawl before members of the public intervened.
“As a result of the incident, the complainant suffered injuries all over her body and the cause of the incident is still under investigation,” he said in a statement issued today.
Mohd Rosdi said five men and seven women, all locals, were arrested to assist with investigations. Those detained range in age from their early 20s to their late 50s.
He added that all suspects will be brought before the Kota Bharu Magistrate’s Court for a remand application to facilitate further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code, which relates to rioting. - December 27, 2025
