AUTHORITIES arrested a local man and an Indian woman yesterday in a special operation conducted at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 and a residence on Jalan Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, over suspected passport misuse and immigration offences.
Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the Malaysian man was apprehended at the KLIA departure counter after being found using an Indian passport belonging to another individual to leave the country.
“Investigations revealed that the suspect is in fact a Malaysian citizen and is believed to have used an Indian passport with a falsified identity on the biodata page, or a passport belonging to another individual,” Zakaria said in a statement today.
The arrest of the man led authorities to detain an Indian woman at a residence on Jalan Kuching. Preliminary checks indicated that she had overstayed her visa in Malaysia.
“The operation team also seized two Indian passports, a boarding pass, and a mobile phone for further investigation,” he added.
Zakaria explained that the Malaysian man is being investigated under Section 12(1)(b) of the Passport Act 1966, while the Indian woman faces investigation under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 25(1) of the National Registration Regulations 1990.
Both suspects have been taken to the Putrajaya Immigration Office for further action, while two other Malaysian individuals have been issued notices to assist with the ongoing investigation.
