Two die, another seriously injured in KK car collision

Kota Kinabalu: Two people died while another was seriously injured after two cars collided near Sulaman Kingfisher along Jalan UMS Sulaman, here, on Sunday.

The State Fire and Rescue Department identified the deceased as Herman Abdullah, 20, and a woman whose identity had yet to be established. Both were travelling in a Proton Wira.

A 34-year-old man who was the driver of the other car, a Proton Saga, was seriously injured.

City Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah, in a statement, said preliminary findings showed that the Saga was heading towards the city centre from the Indah Permai direction.

Meanwhile, a rescue team from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station led by Asama Sarudin was deployed to the scene following a 10.48am distress call.

Members of the public extricated the Proton Saga driver from the wreckage before the arrival of the rescue team while the rescuers retrieved the two occupants from the wrecked Wira.

Medical officials pronounced both dead at the scene.

The rescue operation ended at 12.20pm and the case was handed over to the police for further action.
