Nine hurt in Balik Kampung rush

RANAU: Nine people were injured, two severely, when three Perodua vehicles collided during “balik kampong” for Raya, near here, Friday. Ranau BBP Station Head, PPgB Ridwan Bin Mohd Taib, said the incident involving victims aged between 18 and 57 happened at Km 55 Ranau-Telupid Road at 7am.

“A call was received through the MERS999 line and six personnel led by Operations Commander, PBK II Wasli Bin Saupin, headed for the location.

“Arriving at the scene 55km from the station, we found there had been an accident involving three vehicles namely Perodua Axia, Perodua Bezza and Perodua Myvi. Each vehicle has several injured victims who were removed by the firemen,” he said.

According to Ridwan, a victim was trapped in the driver’s side in the Axia, where the driver and front passenger both suffered serious injuries, while a victim in the rear passenger side suffered minor injuries.

“All were given initial treatment and sent to Ranau Hospital by KKM Ambulance for follow-up treatment. He advised road users to be extra careful during the festive season where there is an increasing volume of vehicles on the road. For those making long distant journeys to balik kampung, ensure your vehicles are in good condition and the driver had enough rest before starting the drive, and stop by the resting areas if tired,” he said.
