Kota Kinabalu: Two Filipinos were jailed 14 months each by the Magistrate’s Court here for having a stolen car.
Amsal Yu, 36, and Junaidi Abd Mutalib, 27, who appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, informed the magistrate of their wish to change their plea to guilty to the charge.
Their case came up for trial on Tuesday.
The duo pleaded guilty to having the stolen Perodua MyVi belonging to Napsinah Justim at a house in Taman Tulip, Papar, on Aug 5, 2023.

Stephanie ordered them to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest and to be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.
Meanwhile, another Filipino was sentenced to four months’ jail and fined RM700 or one week jail for attempting to shoplift.
Unemployed Julgan Kayong, 38, admitted to trying to steal three watches, a car air freshener and a toothbrush, all worth RM57.70 at 3.30pm on March 19, at the Mr DiY shop in Imago here.
The court heard from the prosecution that Julgan was seen suspiciously holding several wristwatches and tried to escape when he was stopped while leaving the premises.
The shop staff found the watches in his bag while the rest in his pocket, the court heard.
Julgan, who was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, requested leniency.
In the same court, an unemployed man was charged with having a stolen motorcycle.

Wave Alpha motorcycle belonging to Ahmad Saddam at noon on March 21, by the roadside behind the general market here.
The charge was framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution proposed bail at RM6,000 in two sureties.
Stephanie fixed April 15 for pre-trial case management and released the accused on a bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.
