KUNAK: A married woman was among two people in their 30s detained on suspicion of khalwat after they were found together in a vehicle here on Friday night.
The pair were detained by enforcement officers from the Kunak office of the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) during an Ops Cegah Maksiat operation in the town.
At about 10pm, officers found the man and woman together in a Proton vehicle under circumstances suspected of constituting khalwat.
Further checks revealed that the woman was married to another man.
“Both individuals were then taken to the Kunak Jheains office for further action and investigation under the applicable Syariah laws,” the department said in a statement on Saturday.
Jheains Kunak reminded the public to observe proper boundaries in their interactions and avoid situations that could give rise to suspicion, while safeguarding family harmony and community well-being.
Muslims were also advised to comply with religious teachings and Syariah laws to avoid actions that could lead to legal consequences.
