- An independent investigation has been launched by the Independent Office for Police Conduct following a police shooting in Luton on Tuesday afternoon.
- Bedfordshire Police officers, including armed response personnel, were called to a property in Cardigan Street at 12.50pm following reports of a man threatening a woman with a knife.
- Police fired shots during the response, leaving a man with serious, non-life-threatening injuries; he received immediate first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital where he remains under police watch.
- A woman was also taken to hospital suffering from stab wound injuries connected to the incident, with her condition currently not believed to be life-threatening.
- Detective chief superintendent Zara Brown reassured the local community and confirmed that Bedfordshire Police are co-operating fully with the IOPC investigation.
