Police have arrested two individuals, including the alleged mastermind, to assist investigations into a murder case in Batu Pahat.
JOHOR BAHRU: Police arrested two local men yesterday, including the alleged mastermind behind the murder of a man whose body was found wrapped and bound with netting in Sungai Tanjung Sembrong, Parit Raja, near Batu Pahat, two days earlier.
Johor deputy police chief DCP Hoo Chuan Huat (pic) said the two men were arrested at different locations in the state.
He said further investigations revealed that the motive for the murder was a debt owed by one of the suspects to the victim, who was a businessman.
“However, the amount of the debt is still under investigation,” he told a press conference at the Johor contingent police headquarters here today.
He said police are also working to determine whether any other suspects were involved in the case.
Hoo said the two men have been remanded for six days from today until Aug 10 to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
On Aug 3, police arrested three men on the same day the body of the 36-year-old victim was discovered.
Hoo was reported as saying that the victim’s body was found with his hands and feet bound with adhesive tape, and bore several injuries to the waist and arms.
He said the victim’s wife lodged a police report on July 29 after her husband went missing in Mutiara Rini, Iskandar Puteri, and the case was initially classified as a missing person case.
