LAHAD DATU: Two men suffered burns following a fire involving a 30-ton lorry, a forklift, and a temporary structure at a culvert processing factory along Jalan Kampung Kokos, Batu 5 Segama, on Wednesday.
The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call via MersS999 at 3.49pm and dispatched a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) with six personnel from the Lahad Datu fire station to the scene, located 24 kilometres away.
The blaze destroyed a forklift completely and damaged 70 per cent of the 30-ton lorry, while five per cent of a non-permanent building inside the premises was also affected.
Both victims, aged 20 and 40, sustained burn injuries—with the 20-year-old suffering 50 per cent burns—and were rushed to the hospital by members of the public before the arrival of the firefighters.
Firefighters controlled the flames at 4.09pm using two hose reel jets fed by the fire appliance tank before wrapping up the entire operation at 4.50pm after ensuring no further risks remained.
