
TWO Malaysians were injured after the sport utility vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in was struck by a bomb explosion near Mukim Phrai Wan in Tak Bai district, Narathiwat province, southern Thailand, on Monday.
The incident is believed to have occurred at about 11.41am local time when the victims' Proton X50 was caught in the blast.
Both men reportedly sustained injuries and were taken by Thai authorities to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Security forces immediately secured the area and launched investigations into the explosion.
Authorities have also closed the affected route from the Sapom Junction to Kampung Saba Baharu in Tak Bai district to enable bomb disposal unit (EOD) personnel and forensic teams to conduct detailed examinations at the scene.
Sinar Harian reported Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirming that Malaysian police had received a report regarding the incident.
“I advise the public to postpone travel to Thailand for the time being,” he said when contacted.
The circumstances surrounding the explosion and the intended target of the attack remain under investigation by Thai authorities. No further details on the condition of the injured Malaysians have been released. - June 29, 2026
