Two men charged in England World Cup ‘heist’ as £13,530 worth of items are recovered

• Two men, Mustafa Salik and Erfan Kamal, have been charged with receiving stolen property after equipment belonging to the England football team went missing during their transit to a World Cup base in Kansas City.
• The incident, described as a 'heist in transit of English national team equipment,’ occurred as the team's gear was being transported from their warm-weather training camp in Florida to the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City.
• A detective recovered an estimated 18,145.41 dollars (£13,530) worth of items, including four pairs of £250 boots and five pairs of £170 shoes, along with some signed national team shirts, a £160 World Cup ball and a pair of £120 goalkeeper gloves. Two stuffed lions and a Lego set of a Nike Air shoe were among the variety of other items.
• Jackson County prosecutor Melesa Johnson said that Salik and Kamal each face a charge that carries a potential sentence of up to seven years in prison.
• Most of the missing training gear has since been recovered, and England players, including Dean Henderson and Dan Burn, stated that the incident has not disrupted their preparations for the upcoming World Cup campaign.
