Two potential kick-off times for Championship play-off final announced amid ‘Spygate’ punishment appeal

  • Southampton were expelled from the Championship play-off final on Tuesday after admitting to spying on rival teams, including semi-finalists Middlesbrough.
  • Middlesbrough are now set to face Hull City in the play-off final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon following the ‘Spygate’ scandal.
  • However, Southampton have appealed the verdict, and are now awaiting to hear if they have been successful.
  • The EFL released a statement on Wednesday morning to give clarity over what time the final will begin, with the first part of the statement reading: “Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final between Hull City and Middlesbrough will kick-off at 15:30.”
  • The statement went on to confirm that a different kick-off time has been arranged if Southampton are reinstated, as the EFL said: “Should the outcome of the ongoing appeal process result in the Final being contested by Hull City and Southampton, the kick-off time for the fixture will remain at 16:30.”
