KUALA LUMPUR — A keynote address by MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur was briefly disrupted this afternoon when two individuals staged a protest inside the public forum hall.

The incident occurred at about 2.45pm during the Wacana Ilmiah Perdana programme.

The disruption began when an individual wearing a T-shirt bearing the word “Mandiri” stood in front of attendees and members of the media while displaying a banner that read “Azam Baki Simbol Reformati”.

Moments later, another individual joined the protest, holding up a separate banner with the words “Tangkap Azam Baki”.

Both individuals also shouted remarks directed at Azam while he was delivering his speech.

Despite the interruption, the MACC chief remained composed and responded with a light-hearted remark, urging the audience to remain focused.

“It’s alright, it’s just a disturbance. Don’t turn off your TV (don’t lose your attention),” he said.

Security personnel later intervened and escorted both individuals out of the venue.

The brief protest underscored continued public attention and differing views surrounding the leadership of the anti-graft agency, even as official events continue under close scrutiny.

However, members of the media were unable to obtain further comments from Azam after the speech concluded. - April 7, 2026
