LAHAD DATU: Two retired civil servants have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah for allegedly submitting false claims amounting to RM6,000.
According to sources, the suspects, both in their 60s, were arrested around 11am on Wednesday while giving their statements at the MACC Lahad Datu office.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the alleged offence took place in 2021, while they were still serving in a government agency in the state.
The suspects are believed to have submitted claims for area cleaning and coconut planting projects which were never carried out.
Sabah MACC Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
He said both suspects are expected to be charged soon.
