KUALA LUMPUR: Two school students were among 45 individuals detained by police in connection with a violent riot at an entertainment centre in Cheras.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus stated that the incident last Sunday, which involved more than 60 people, is believed to have originated from a dispute between business rivals and was fuelled by revenge.
He added that the group is also suspected of having links to a secret society, with several masterminds and higher-level individuals still at large.
The group allegedly used a lorry to ram the premises’ gate around noon before damaging the front section and lobby with weapons like baseball bats.
Police have seized the lorry and four other vehicles believed to have been used during the riot.
Fadil explained that police received a report at about 7.30 pm on the day of the incident and subsequently arrested eight individuals aged between 16 and 27 on Monday and Tuesday.
One suspect was remanded for two days while the others were released on police bail after a one-day remand, with the case being investigated under Section 427 for mischief and Section 148 for rioting under the Penal Code.
He confirmed that another 37 individuals aged between 14 and 50 were detained around the capital today, with remand applications currently being processed.
Fadil expressed concern over the involvement of school students and vowed that police would continue operations until all those involved are arrested and charged in court.
