- The Met Office has named Storm Boelo, the second severe weather system to strike the UK within a matter of days, which is forecast to bring heavy rain and powerful winds to northern regions over the weekend.
- Yellow weather warnings for wind have been issued from Saturday evening through to Sunday across Northern Ireland, Scotland, north-east and north-west England, and North Yorkshire.
- Storm Boelo follows immediately after Storm Austen, which is expected to lash southern England, Wales, and parts of the Midlands with heavy rain and severe gales throughout Thursday night and Friday before clearing into the North Sea.
- Met Office chief forecaster Neil Armstrong warned that Storm Austen's strong winds could cause fallen branches and trees to obstruct roads and railways, creating significant disruption for the Friday morning commute.
- Deputy chief forecaster Chris Bulmer advised that Storm Boelo could generate gusts of 70-80mph in exposed coastal areas and high ground, driven by an active jet stream across the Atlantic.
