PETALING JAYA: U Mobile has introduced ULTRA Home 5G Pro, a 5G home broadband service offering speeds of up to 2Gbps, as the telco expands its ULTRA5G network beyond mobile connectivity.
Available from RM98 a month, the service targets households with growing demand for high-speed internet, online gaming, and simultaneous connections across multiple devices.
It comes with a 2,000GB monthly data quota and requires no fixed fibre installation, offering customers a plug-and-play alternative for home connectivity.
U Mobile said the service is powered by 8×8 MIMO 5G-Advanced, or 5G-A, technology, which enables the router to receive more data streams from its ULTRA5G network at the same time.
Compared with conventional 4×4 MIMO technology, the telco said, this can deliver speed improvements of between 20% and 100%, while providing greater capacity in homes where several devices are connected concurrently.
U Mobile said ULTRA Home 5G Pro can offer speeds of up to twice as fast as existing 5G home broadband services that use conventional 4×4 MIMO configurations.
U Mobile chief consumer business officer Navin Manian said the launch demonstrated the wider potential of the company’s 5G network.
“With ULTRA Home 5G Pro, we are demonstrating how the capabilities of our ULTRA5G network can deliver beyond mobile connectivity. By bringing together higher speeds, more responsive gaming and greater capacity, we are giving customers the performance they need as more devices and more demanding applications become part of everyday life.”
Navin said the plug-and-play nature of the service gives customers more flexibility, particularly to those who do not want to wait for fixed fibre installation.
“ULTRA Home 5G Pro gives customers another high-performance option for home connectivity, while demonstrating the wider potential of our ULTRA5G network,” he added.
A key feature of the new offering is its AI-Powered Game Turbo capability, which identifies and optimises gaming traffic in real time.
U Mobile said the feature is designed to reduce latency and improve responsiveness for users playing supported PC, console and mobile games. Gaming traffic is prioritised separately from general data traffic across the ULTRA5G network, which the company said would help provide a smoother gaming experience.
The service is bundled with the ULTRA Performance WiFi 7 5G-A Router, which U Mobile describes as the first and only 5G-Advanced WiFi 7 router offered by a telecommunications provider in Malaysia. Built to work with U Mobile’s 8×8 MIMO 5G-A network, the router supports WiFi 7 Multi-Link Operation, or MLO.
The feature allows compatible devices to use multiple WiFi connections simultaneously and is intended to provide high-speed coverage across larger homes.
ULTRA Home 5G Pro is currently available in Peninsular Malaysia. U Mobile said it will announce availability in East Malaysia at a later date.
