Datuk Azizulhasni Awang ended the 2026 UCI Track Cycling World Championships without a medal after losing to Britain’s Harry Ledingham-Horn in the sprint.

NATIONAL track cycling champion Datuk Azizulhasni Awang ended his campaign at the 2026 UCI Track Cycling World Championships without any medals after being defeated in the men’s individual sprint event in Shanghai, China, today.

In the Round of 16, the rider famously nicknamed “The Pocket Rocketman” had to accept defeat against British rider Harry Ledingham-Horn.

Earlier in the qualifying round, the 38-year-old rider clocked a time of 9.564s to finish eighth overall before defeating Colombia’s Cristian David Ortega Fontalvo in the first round.

Previously, Azizulhasni was also defeated in the keirin event after being eliminated in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

However, Malaysia still has representation at the championships as two national representatives, Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri and Nur Alysaa Mohd Farid, will be in action in the women’s keirin event tomorrow.
