Udonis Haslem believes one small decision could have changed the Miami Heat’s Play-In loss to the Charlotte Hornets, pointing to a key defensive moment late in the game.

Miami’s season came down to a single possession in a game that swung multiple times.

And after a dramatic overtime finish, the margin between advancing and elimination proved to be razor-thin.

Udonis Haslem highlights key defensive decision vs. Charlotte Hornets

Speaking in an analysis shared via Sports On Prime, Haslem focused on one specific adjustment he felt Miami could have made in the closing seconds.

“One thing I would have liked to see on that last play I would have liked to see Kel’el [Ware] in the game, maybe if you put him on the ball, that in-bounder, to distort that inbound pass, make it a tougher pass, That was the one thing I would nitpick,” Haslem said.

The suggestion centres on disrupting the inbound, a critical moment that allowed Charlotte to execute under pressure.

In a one-possession game, even a slight disruption could have forced a different outcome.

Miami Heat’s Play-In loss to Hornets decided by overtime execution

The reality is Miami fell 127-126 in overtime, with LaMelo Ball scoring the decisive layup and Charlotte sealing the win with a final defensive stop at the buzzer.

“Kel’el was out, and they went to a small line-up, how many times have we seen a big tip in, especially with five seconds left?” Blake Griffin asked.

“I do think if Bam was in there, they would have won the game,” Haslem added.

The closing stretch exposed Miami’s lack of size, especially with Bam Adebayo unavailable late after injury, leaving the Heat vulnerable in key moments.

Charlotte capitalised on that imbalance, executing cleanly in overtime to eliminate Miami from postseason contention.

In games like this, Haslem’s point lands clearly. One defensive adjustment, one extra presence at the rim, and the entire result could have flipped.
