The UK government is engaged in "discussions about supporting potential bids" to host the Olympics and the Paralympics in the 2040s, the BBC reported on Wednesday citing the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
According to the report, the DCMS said that "initial work examining whether the UK could host the Games for the first time since London 2012 will assess key factors such as potential cost, socio-economic benefit and chance of success".
The report added that the UK aims to become the preferred venue for major sporting events in the future.
As part of these plans, the government is also considering to make it a criminal offence to resell tickets for specific events - such as Euro 2028 - without authorization, claiming it "will make it easier to bid for, secure and deliver major sporting events".
Los Angeles in the United States and Brisbane in Australia are hosting the 2028 and 2032 Games respectively. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is yet to the hosts for the the events in 2036 and beyond.
Germany is also aiming to host the Summer Games in 2036, 2040, or 2044.
