UK job vacancies rise as hiring picks up in these roles

  • The UK job market saw 1.7 million job adverts in June, a 9 per cent increase from May and an 11 per cent rise year-on-year, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (Rec).
  • Notable surges in vacancies were observed for delivery drivers, couriers, actors, entertainers, presenters and pest control officers, alongside significant rises in agriculture, retail, and hospitality roles.
  • The biggest regional increases in job adverts were recorded in Anglesey, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and Cheshire.
  • Rec's chief standards officer, Lorraine Laryea, noted a clear uptick in firms acting on hiring plans, suggesting a general trend of companies venturing back into hiring.
  • Separately, a review earlier this year found that Britain's youth unemployment crisis is costing the nation £125 billion annually, with over one million young people aged 16-24 not in education, employment, or training.
