- A former government adviser has recommended encouraging people to work from home to tackle energy shortages.
- Professor Nick Butler, an ex-adviser to Gordon Brown, stated this would be a "perfectly sensible" measure to mitigate the crisis.
- The energy shortages are attributed to US-Israeli military action in Iran since February, which has driven oil prices up by over 60 per cent and caused a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
- Butler warned that diesel prices could rise significantly above £2 per litre, with the most severe impact on supply and prices expected in late April and early May.
- He highlighted that some Asian countries are already adopting similar work-from-home policies in response to the crisis.
