TAWAU: A 25-year-old trainee teacher from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia was killed after the car she was driving skidded off the road in an accident at Batu 11 Jalan Apas near Bandar Sri Indah on Friday.

The victim, identified as Amierah Aqeelah Arbin, was undergoing a three-month teaching practicum at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Balung Tawau from March 2 to June 12.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Jemishin Ujin said the department received an emergency call at 12.26pm and a team of six personnel led by Senior Fire Officer I Zougarana Konin arrived at the scene about 20 minutes later.

He said the accident involved a Perodua Kenari which had veered off the road, with the victim already extricated by Ministry of Health personnel and later pronounced dead at the scene before the case was handed over to police.

Firefighters conducted monitoring to ensure no further hazards before concluding operations at 1.22pm, while police said details of the case could not yet be released pending a post-mortem at Tawau Hospital.
