KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 - Universiti Malaya (UM) will move to hybrid teaching and learning (PdP) from Monday (October 12), as a precaution amid the haze blanketing the country.
Its vice-chancellor Datuk Seri Prof Noor Azuan Abu Osman said the move is a proactive step to prioritise the health, safety, and wellbeing of the campus community while keeping academic activities running smoothly.
Hybrid learning will keep lessons running more flexibly in step with current conditions and students' needs, without compromising health.
"The university also advises that outdoor activities be postponed temporarily to reduce exposure to haze. For activities that must go on, risk assessments and appropriate control measures must be carried out based on current conditions.
"Campus members are advised to take appropriate health precautions, including cutting down on outdoor activities and wearing N95 masks outdoors, especially if air quality worsens," he said in a statement today.
Azuan added that UM will keep monitoring the situation and periodically review the effectiveness of its measures, ensuring all decisions safeguard the interests and welfare of the campus community.
The university will communicate any changes or further instructions through its official channels.
This morning, 37 areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index readings, with Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, topping the list at 186.
