UMNO Batu terminates cooperation with Pakatan Harapan in Federal Territories

THE UMNO Batu division has announced the termination of its cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) within the Batu constituency and the Federal Territories, citing what it describes as biased treatment and disrespect towards UMNO’s role as a partner in the Unity Government.

Datuk Gulam Muszaffar, UMNO Batu chief, expressed dissatisfaction over the allocation of quotas for the Residents’ Representative Council (Majlis Perwakilan Penduduk, MPP), which were initially earmarked for UMNO but subsequently granted to PH instead. He also claimed that UMNO received no funding when organising programmes.

“If you want to be friends, then behave like friends. Do not meddle with quota matters that are rightfully ours,” said Gulam, who also serves as UMNO Federal Territories Information Chief, in an interview yesterday.

He revealed that UMNO Batu had previously met with the political secretary to the Minister of Federal Territories to discuss the reappointment of the MPP and quota distribution. The meeting reportedly resulted in an agreement that Barisan Nasional (BN) would be allocated one quota per parliamentary constituency, formalised in an official circular.

“However, the minister awarded all six quotas to PH. If they wish to give five quotas to any party within PKR, that is their prerogative. But why should BN’s quota be interfered with? That is clearly unfair,” he added.

Earlier, Gulam announced via Facebook that he had submitted his resignation letter to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, from his position as a trustee on the Federal Territories Foundation Board, which is chaired by the minister. - September 18, 2025
